As part of our ongoing effort to build and serve the fast-growing community around GigaSpaces and OpenSpaces.Org , we've re-launched our discussion forums , using Jive Forums. We have migrated all of the posts from the old forums and simplified the forum structure. So please, check them out .
The new forums are the latest step in creating a better user experience with GigaSpaces and the Spring-based OpenSpaces Framework. As a place where users can engage in conversations with the rest of the community, the forums complement our Wiki, which contains full product documentation, our Getting Started Guide, tutorials and screencasts.
Two major initiatives we have launched lately increased the need for improved forums. First was the Start-Up program, launched in early November. This program provides qualified individuals and start-ups (by qualified we mean with less the $5 million in revenues in the last 12 months) free, perpetual and unlimited GigaSpaces XAP licenses. Support for participants of this program is provided via the forums (participants can always buy a full license at 50% discount and receive 24/7 email, phone and on-premise support).
The second big initiative, announced last week, is the OpenSpaces Developer Challenge, which is part of the soon-to-be-launched OpenSpaces.Org community web site for developers who use and extend the open source OpenSpaces framework. When the site officialy launches in January 2008, we will provide all of the necessary tools for developers to create plug-ins, connectors and other extensions for OpenSpaces. These tools will include a source code repository, an issue tracking system, a wiki, and of course, forums. Everything is integrated with a single-sign-on system.
The community around GigaSpaces and OpenSpaces is growing rapidly and we hope that all of these tools help to serve it better.
BTW, Jive Forums is an absolutely fun product. We managed to migrate all our existing forum users, passwords and posts (a task which required writing some code to convert the two formats) and overall it was a not-too-bad experience.
To sum up, if you're not yet part of the GigaSpaces community forums, today is the best time to join.
